Technology
At LWI, we have implemented numerous projects using multiple technologies as required for each application. Specifically, we have designed, installed and operated the following systems:
Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) for industrial applications.
Activated Sludge process in municipal wastewater plants.
LWI Technology
We have pioneered the development of much of the technology that we use today.
In 2005. We designed and built South Africa's first pre-fabricated municipal wastewater plant. This activated sludge system was built with zincrolite tanks and synthetic liners never before used in the wastewater industry, and it resulted in a 60% saving on construction cost and 70% saving on completion time.
The improvements we have made to the tank and liner technology are now so well proven that we can – with supreme confidence - offer a 20-year warranty on the tanks, and a 15 year warranty on the liners.
This, in essence, means you have more robust finished products from LWI Bio-series plant, backed by longer warranties, than you would get from conventional reinforced concrete plants.
LWI means saving time and saving money
Another added advantage of the Bio Series plant is that it can be deconstructed and reassembled should there be the need to make to adjustments to its size. This avoids the huge expense of constructing a new plant to accommodate a growing population.
The plant is also movable. It can be relocated to a different location, making it perfect for permanent and temporary use.
The benefits of this technology is particularly relevant for South Africa. When a sewer plant is initially built for an informal settlement, and that community is transformed into permanent housing, the plant can be easily moved to a new location, and there is no need for further investment on the bulk infrastructure.
Obviously, this innovative approach to WWTP would never be achievable with conventional reinforced concrete plants, which is a massive money-saver for any municipality.
